Not an Ugly Duckling

Donald Berns, left, president of the Chautauqua County Society of Artists, and Merrill E. “Pete” Coffin, its vice president, check the fine points of a duck carved by Berns, with another of his creations in the foreground. At right is one of Coffin’s paintings. Their works will be among those offered at the society’s 14th annual Bemus Point Art and Craft Show, set for 10 a.m. to dusk, Saturday and Sunday (July 13–14) at Bemus Point Village Park. More than 60 artists and craftsmen from New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio will exhibit at the show. Dorothy Hook, art instructor at Pennsylvania State University, will be the fine arts judge, with area artist Helen Gilberdt judging the crafts.
